Università degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (UNICAS)

was established in 1979 in response to the requests of a territory characterized by a strong need for cultural and social development and promotion. Because of its geographical position on the link road between Rome and Naples (the ancient “via Casilina”), the University acts as a meeting point between the cities of southern Lazio, Campania, Molise, and Abruzzo.

The University of Cassino has about 257 professors and about 274 administrative staff units, serving around 9,000 students.  The institutional activities (teaching, research, and “third mission”) are headed by 5 Departments (Economics and Law; Civil and Mechanical Engineering; Electrical and Information Engineering; Literature and Philosophy; Human Social and Health Sciences), which cover a very broad and articulated set of scientific and areas and interests, also of an interdisciplinary nature. In 2018-2019 the educational offer includes 11 BA courses, 21 MA courses, 1 BA+MA program, 3 Ph.D. courses, and numerous “advanced professional training courses”.

The research activities are supported by nearly 60 highly specialized laboratories, functional to the development of the projects often carried out in the framework of national and international collaborations, and to the provision of technological consultancies to institutions and industries.

UNICAS will lead WP5 and will contribute to WPs 2, and 3.
